Hooray! It’s a miracle. Tomorrow is my first real income earning opportunity since returning to the lucky country. I’m donning the overalls to slave my guts out come 9am tomorrow. In a warehouse in Little Bourke Street you’ll feel the earth move as this machine begins turning once again.
At the end of the day, I may have earned enough to buy a loaf of bread and perhaps a carton of milk. I’m joining the unskilled labour force for some fast cash, believe me when I say I need it!

In other news today, my new digital video camera arrived by courier. Great! Where’s the tape?
How dodgy is that? Even when you buy any digital still camera you get a pathetic memory card to at least play with. I’m sure back in the old days you might have won a free 35mm film or two after shelling out your hard earned for the old school contraptions.
Somehow I will find a way to make a movie and when I do, look out Spielberg!

My housemate shouted me a ticket to join him and another of his workmates to see The Audreys play at the Northcote Social Club. What a great band! Such a fantastic variety of instruments and talented musicians. The Audreys sound is excellent and somewhat like an Australian blend of, say Cowboy Junkies. You a fan of Weddings, Parties, Anything? Then imagine a more country than folk sound and you will enjoy it.
As well as their own material, they also performed a few ’80s covers, one being a superb version of Don’t Change from the Michael Hutchence days of INXS. Yay, go the ’80s! Interested to sample, get your ears around to http://www.theaudreys.com.au/listen.html

Okay, I haven’t lost everything. After Japan, and there are dozens of other words we could use to describe that chapter of my life, I find myself starting over. Largely from scratch, partially from residual stuff from the Japan chapter, and some treasures from a former self, but also some new goodies.
Good friends have taken me in, so I now have a home. A giant queen size bed has been loaned to me. It’s the biggest bed I have ever had use of, I get lost in it some mornings.
My insurance claim from the Niseko ski disaster has finally come through. Now I am in a position to get my hands on a hot little digital video camera, I am considering the Canon MV920. I’m still keen to hear about the claim for my busted ski though… Read the rest of this entry »
